Top O The Mornin To Ya

I need a fire lit under my tail, a 'pick-me-up,' a boost, a kick, a..A..a..something to get me going. It's 9:00 am and I'm still fighting with myself, trying to get going. The bed is not helping matters any either. It's down the hall calling, "Heh, did you forget me? My sheets are getting cold, my covers are too flat, come on back, lets cozy up again." But, I can't give in today, much as I'd like to. I have rolls to shape and bake, maybe mashed tatters to make, something. I have a funeral to go to at church today. Had the viewing yesterday. Took corn, fried apples and pan of rolls for the family. Anyone want to keep Timmy, he don't want to go?

Kenny started plowing yesterday for a guy Jimmy works for. He took Timmy with him to Corydon while I went to the viewing. He intended to come back to Leavenworth and plow down at the river bottoms but got called in to work so had to take Timmy with him. He then stayed in Corydon, plowed down behind Arby's by that big industrial plant, cant think of it's name. I went to pick up Timmy around 5:00 and we went up to the Goodwill. Guess who walked in? My dear Mommy and Daddy. Surprise. hadn't seen them all week. We shopped together then went over to Cracker Barrel and Mom treated us. Had a bowl of white beans and cornbread with onions and peppers, good. From there we went to Wal-Mart for eggs and such.

Kenny told me to get the vehicle washed but they were closed by then. Saw the tractor headlights down over the hill so called Kenny to see if he wanted to eat. Took him a sandwich from Arby's then we headed home. By then It was 10:00. Kenny didn't get home till 12:00, he put in 9 hours in two fields.

It's 10:00, I MUST get the rolls shaped and baked, let alone raising time. Funeral is at 1:00, gotta go.

Good Day

So how was your day? How about that sunshine after those 'gray ole days.' It lifts the spirits, says all is well.

Timmy did 10 pages of homework today, very easy, he knew it all,.....But, you'd think I was trying to pull all his teeth or something like that. He greatly dislikes having to THINK. He says, "I hate homework and wish it was never invented." He just don't want to sit still long enough to do one page, and for the most part he could have one done in 2 minutes if he would. It's a struggle! I ask him to write his ABC's and it took him 1 hour because he didn't want to do it. Oh well, guess he'll learn in his own time.

I was cleaning out the top cupboard shelf here in the kitchen and ran across a small, old, greeting card box of Grandmother's. In it was a hanky she was crocheting an edging on, half finished, with the needle and thread still attached. On the bottom of the box is a recipe in her writing for 'Date Yummies.' I had been intending to make them for YEARS and never had. Kenny got called in to work so Timmy said he'd make them and he did. They were good but will be better tomorrow or later. I'll post the recipe later. I just looked at my watch ant it says 3:35, had no idea. Guess Kenny working, through me off. Rest in peace.

Gray ole Day?

How would you like to be here on this gray ol day? The sand is micro fine, soft and so white and pretty, feels wonderful on the bare feet. They were loading up a bottle to bring home. Wonder how much sand has been 'taken home' over the last 100 years?

Went to the denist, had exam and 18 x-rays .[ouch] They found 2 cavities, one at the gum line, said that could be a problem, the other is under a filling, so it will have to come out and refill a big hole, ouch again. They set me up for a cleaning and filling at the same visit, let's get it over with. Walked from the exam chair to the front desk and the receptionist said, "Your husband is here waiting to take you to lunch." surprise! It was 1 1/2 hours past his lunch time. Went to Burger King and I had a veggie burger. Went then over to the Good Will and got a couple records, a couple books, tablet of typing paper, Gaither video for Timmy, 2 audio tape set on 'The Care And Feeding of Husbands' for $2.00, a shirt for Timmy, a old box set of childrens crafts and things to make and that's all I can think of. Got the last hole on my card punched so now I get $10.00 worth off of my next purchase.

Went from there to the nursing home to see a 85 year old man who has no family left. Had to sell [practically gave it away] his 90 acre farm to go to the home because of a bad knee. He was glad for the company. When he still had the farm, he let me pick pears from his 100 year old trees, that's how I know him.

Timmy says he stayed up all night at Ruth's house, just laying there in the dark all night. I had a terrible time keeping him awake during church tonight, now he's not sleepy, he says. It's 11:30, Kenny just went to bed so I'll go get Timmy 'down' and read him a story about 'Joseph' that I got at Good Will today. Good Night.

Summer 1957 Yikes!

As you know, click to enlarge,. Do you know these youngsters? My, my, my! Dear Mother, sorry you had such a handful with no help. Wish I coulda helped you more.

Took Timmy to Ruths shop for a sleepover, I have a denist appointment tomorrow at 12:00 noon. Left the shop and drove to mom and dads for a quick "Hi" before heading home. They had just gotten home from visiting Cora. Mom was running around in a big hurry, trying to get her stuff together to go to work and only had a few minutes to do it. Put daddy out some chili for supper, cleaned the fish tank pump, put out a little bird seed and took off for home. I was supposed to have chili all heated up when Hubby got home, I beat him by five minutes. He wanted to quick go over to Carefree where his tractor is and rewire the bad, brittle light wires. The chili was hot by the time he got in the door but he wanted to go right away 'cause the daylight was fading fast. We went and worked a few minutes but he needed some little wire connecters of a different size so his layed out plans had to be scrapped. Just got home and the Girl Scout Cookie delivery person drove up so Kenny forked out $20.00 [17.50] for our order. Didn't really want any cookies but the little girl goes to my church and Kenny wanted to help her out. So, I had three different kinds of cookies after my chili, shouldn't have though. Kenny ate my apple cake and icecream.
It's now 1:40, gotta get my beauty sleep for tomarrow's ordeal. Nite, nite.

Hanging Out

Is this going to work, we'llsee, no not very well. What's the problem? Oh well, I didn't have much to say anyway. Spent the day in the kitchen, made a kettle of chili. Anly addad half the amount of seasonings the recipe called for and it was too hot. Dipped out a quart of hot juice and added another jar of juice and it was still to hot so I dipped out another quart and added another. That wasen't worded right I know, but it's 2:00 and I don't want to have to rethink it so there it is. Wasn't to hot for me but was for others. I saved the juice, it'll be good to just drink. Gotta go, talk to ya tomarrow.

POST SCRIPT

Didn't mean to 'one up' Sarah's photo but I had ment to put it on this week but it wouldn't post.
tried it again tonight and it worked, It's there for comparison purposes.

Older But Better

Check it out. There's the gang. Yes, I think we should take Sarah up on her offer of another picture, just wait till warmer weather.

Kenny got out and shoveled the driveway, boo hoo, I was hoping to be snowed in.

I spent the day in the kitchen, made two more fresh apple cakes to put in the freezer. Had apples I needed to use up, they were going bad. Cut up 7 cups of apples about the size of cooked rice. Took awhile. That's the worst part about making the cake. Think I'll cut up some dried apples real fine, reconstitute them, cook and sweeten them to make a filling between two layers. Someone told me that her mom did that during her growing up years and they loved it.

That's my day. It's 2:15, talk to yah later, Good Night.

Off Day

What do you know, it worked. This was taken at Fort Walton Beach on the morning we left Florida. Wish it was that warm here today as it was there.

Well my day didn't go as planned. Not that I had any plans but it was out of the ordinary. Kenny woke me up this morning saying, "Come on, get up and get dressed, let's go." I half way mumbled, "Where?" He said, "To the farm show." I groaned, "Oh no," He said, "OH yes." I repeated, "Oh no." and He replied, "Oh yes." and back and forth we went. Needless to say, we went. I didn't even know he took the day off. I should have known when he stayed up late last night that something was up. WE stopped in Corydon and had breakfast at Friches so we wouldn't have to eat the outrageously expensive food at the farm show. We did get a cup of lemonade to share and it cost $3.50. A single dip waffle cone was $3.50 also. No we didn't get one but Timmy tried. I bought him 10 honey sticks for $1.00. and a bag of soy coffee blended with regular coffee, hazelnut flavor.
I don't recommend going to the Farm Show. They bussed school kids in and you could hardly walk through, it was so crowded. I think it's a gathering place for teenagers, only there 'cause it's a day off from class. Kenny got disgusted and left a little early because he couldn't even get through the crowed to see anything much. Timmy and I were more than ready to leave. We stopped at Sams then at Captain Dee's for a sandwich on the way home. They went to bed early, at 10:30 and it's 12:30 now so I'm South bound and down.

What? No Posts?

Guess it's up to me tonight huh? I called Timmy over here to show him your bubbles Ruth. He sat on my lap and popped 5 fresh pages full. He said, "Mom if you get board in the mornings, you can come out here and do this"

I definitely don't like what I'm hearing outside. The wind is fierce and blowing with a vengence. What bothers me is two BIG, TALL trees at the back corner of the house, one is hanging over the gerage and tall enough to cover the whole house if it let loose off of the rock it's sitting on. Angels stand guard. Alexander,Raymuth,Pete Leftus and Curley, we sure could use you tonight. Lord, please dispatch your finest, over here to our house for the duration of the storm. THANK YOU. You know what? Since I started those last few lines, the wind has died down to where I can't even hear it blow now. Hallelujah, Praise The Lord, Thank-You Jesus!

Timmy and I spent the day in the woods. We walked down the dry creek bed looking at rocks, moss, little water pools, buck-eyes, acorns, tree stands, uprooted trees, bleached out deer bones and every other thing out there to explore. Timmy balanced on fallen trees, hung upside down like a sloth on another, moved rocks to allow trickeling water to meander freely on it's course and generally enjoyed his walk in the woods. We made a trip back to the house to get my camera and went farther the second time. Got back at 4:30 and we were so tired that we sat down on the floor to rest and watched a little of an old black and white movie about a submerine maneuvering through a mine field in Tokyo Bay. Not generally what he'd watch but he was looking for John Wayne in it.

I had no idea! It's 1:15 am and neither of my guyes are in bed. Timmy just got out of the shower and Kenny is doen stairs on the couch sleeping I suppose. He layed down on the couch earlier to watch something and fell asleep. I sent Timmy down stairs because the wind was so bad, Kenny came up and checked the weather on the computer then went back down and Timmy came back up to shower. He's now watching Charlotte's Web 2. I'll get off of here and go see what's up. Ahh, now I get it. I can hear the TV down stairs now that the frigerator stopped running. Kenny's watching that submerine movie that was on earlier today.

That wind is roaring again and the house is creaking, no it's not. That's Alexander, Raymouth, Pete, Leftus and Curley walking around up there on the roof, keeping a vigilant watch. Thank-you Lord. I can sleep better now, knowing I don't have to worry.

Kenny just came upstairs, said he'd been snoozing away. Good thing, because he's on call and this is good call-out weather.

If I've bored anyone, just tell me not to be so windy, and that I talk to much. I'll shut-up and let someone else do the talking now. Good Night.

Springtime?

Springtime. That's Timmy's big question, every day, several times a day. "Mom, is it springtime yet?" I reply, "No not yet." He asks, "But when will it be springtime?" I say, "Oh, in about 8 weeks." He questions, "How long's 8 weeks?" I say, "When it's warm enough to go outside without your coat." "But is that very long?" "It is to you, why?" "Because I want the frogs to hurry up and come out."

He begged me to go into the woods with him today. I told him he could go out there in the woods where I could see him from the kitchen window. He nearly cried. He wanted me to go with him out back, down to the gully. He took his pop gun to protect us and the pruning clippers to cut me a trail so the briers and sticks wouldn't catch my cloths and hair he said. He found a little pool of water and played at undamming it for a long time while I carried rocks. Last spring I came across some dandy rocks down in the gully. I started gathering them into piles but had no way to haul them up here. Besides, it was later in the spring and it was hot, heavy work and the ticks started coming out so I abandoned ship. While he played, I carried one pile up the hill a further piece to be easier to pick up if I ever get a way to haul them. Had to get back and start supper. Got waylayed in the yard messing around the flower beds and guess what? The bleeding hearts are up and coming on through the leaves, also the surprise lillies. The daffodiles are budding too.

We ended up with 3 cakes on Valentines day. I made Kenny a fresh apple cake, he brought me a icecream cake from the Dairy Queen and the neighbor made a Red Velvet cake for Timmy. I put a red and white lace table cloth on the table, two candle holders Sarah had given me some years ago, and all the red votive holders I could find, about 10, set the three cakes on one end of the table, lit the candles and brought out the leftovers. Set Kenny's 2 cards by his plate, put Timmy's under his and set a Bob The Builder bag by Timmy's plate with a few things from the dollar store in it. Never saw him eat so fast. I wouldn't let him open it till he ate his supper.

After supper we drove over to Grantsburg to take Gerald a parts catalog. I took he and Barb a 2 layer freshapple cake with cream cheese iceing and covered with chopped walnuts. Took it in my glass , footed, covered cake plate and they loved it. They were just finishing supper and had 4 grandkids there. It was a hit.

It's after 2:00 so I'm gonna slip on out of here and down the hall. Sleep Tight.

Yes, Dear Mommie Ruth, you're a good teacher, three cheers for you! Now, please come back, you're a better teacher than I am a retainer. You didn't leave me a note on how to save a picture to PC. I did this one the other day but it's very, very tiny and I've slept since than. It's entirely [what happened here] to late to be sitting here at 2:50 am so that's all for now.

Roses Are Red, Violets........

There, Hows that? It worked Ruth, I just followed your note. I think I need a refresher course on adding pictures to my file though.

Reflecting on your comments about being puny, maybe it was just your nature to be 'skinny' like Sarah Beth, guess she comes by it honestly. That 'puny' part may have been Elaine's idea, they thought a person had to have some 'substance' on them to be healthy. Any way, that discription don't fit you any more, no pun intended.

I don't remember being to young to go to school and waiting at home for Sharon or Rhoda to come home. Maybe that's because I had Rachel and Ruth to play with. I well remember being in the first grade at Poge, living at the trailer park, and WALKING HOME ALONE at lunch time to eat. That shure wouldn't be allowed by any school now days, I wouldn't think.
A few years later, I remember a student living next door to Graysbranch school and they wern't allowed to walk home for lunch. Back to walking home, It didn't bother me a bit, but it wouldn't be a smart thing today for a first grader to do. To this day, I still love Campbells tomato soup, that's what I remember eating when I got home. Hot, red soup with little oyster crackers in it. Don't remember eating anything else or Sharon or Rhoda walking with me. I know one time I forgot to take off my green and white checked apron that Grandma gave me. I had left the trailer but was still inside the park when I realized, to my horror, I was still wearing that
'thing.!' I was so embarrassed but didn't have time to run it back home before the school bell rang. I took it off and stuffed it in the mail box which was at the top of the hill, not down at the trailer, and ran on to school. Funny how first graders can be so embarrassed over some of the silliest things. Wonder what the mailman thought when he opened the box?

That's enough for tonight, it's 1:10 and Timmy is whimpering in his sleep, better check on him.

Cha-Ching!!!!!!

Hey folks, that was a shot in the dark, now what? I've slept some since Ruth was here to show me how to do this. All my other try's failed, I tried to put a little angel on a couple times but she flew away. Think I'll leave well enough alone before this one goes poof. It's 2:oo am, I've felt chilled and ackey all day so I'm saying Good Night.

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

Hey Folks, I told you Aunt Woosy was out there and you didn't believe me. She snuck in the back door the other day, somehow made her way up the stairs and made a bee line for the computer. Her long bony finger prints were found All OVER the keys, the screen and the printer. It was all locked up for days and I couldn't do a thing with it. She's a trouble maker, let me tell ya. The printer still don't want to work at first try without punching it twice. Kenny sat down here, wipped off her dirty finger prints, jimmy'd a few keys, rearanged some jargen, spit over his shoulder twice, hopped 3 steps on one leg, switched around the shoes on his feet and with a POOOF and a bang, guess what? Here I am again. WOW! If anyone sees Aunt Woosy again, Snuff out her light, lock her up, goodness, DO SOMETHING WITH HER. WE JUST CAN'T HAVE HER HANGING AROUND HERE ANYMORE.

I'll cool my feathers now and see if this will post. Good night. It's 12:30, still early but my guys just went to bed so guess I'll head down the hall too.

Gathering Sand

Happy Valentines Day. If this picture posts, it's not the one I wanted for today, I can't get it to print. Anyway, my plan was to have a good Valentine poem or short story to share with you. I couldn't find what I wanted so I'll just share one I wrote for Kenny some years back.

Kenny,
You asked if I missed you--
The answer is no
Well....in the evenings
When the sun is low.

Early in the mornings
When the mockingbird sings
His song so sweetly
On golden wings.

Late in the evenings
Mid the sunsets glow
When the barnswallows fly
To and frow.

In the cool of the night
When all is still
When I hear the call
Of the whippoorwill

In the heat of the day
When the butterflies sail
When the night is lit
Bythe firefly's tail

When the new mown hay
Lies still on the ground
When the sweetcorns tassel
Begin to turn brown

When the sun is setting
And the sky's ablaze
With orange and pink
And a hint of blue haze

When the full moons hung
By a silverly thread
And the twinkling stars
Nod their heads

When the mist and fog
Settle in with the dew
My thoughts have been
All day with you

You ask if I miss you
No, not a bit
Well....only when I breath
And I can't seem to quit

As long as there's breath
In this soul of mine
I'll love you and need you
Till the end of time

Till the wonders of nature
Cease to exist
I miss you and need you
And count myself blessed.

Littlest Angel

Not much to say today, just wanted to see if this picture would post. Gotta check the dryer and get to bed. Night night.

BAKING DAY

Made three 'Fresh Apple Cakes' today and it took all day. My live long day was spent in the kitchen. I took the first cake out of the oven to soon so it didn't get done in the middle. First one here gets it, it's iced and ready to go, any body hungry for good moist cake? This cake recipe is one of the best I've eaten. The second one is OK, ready for the desert auction. The third one is Pappa Bears, he was glad I didn't forget him. He said, "You mean you made one for me too?"

Timmy wants a story so I'll drop off for now. Good night.

MOMMY DEAREST

Hey Mom, Ruth is planning on coming over tomarrow, come on over with her if you want to. We'll have Italian sausage with sauted onions and green peppers wrapped in a soft taco wrap and corn dogs for the kids. Deal? deal.

Gotta get my $%^&*(#@! in gear , get up and make an apple cake for a desert auction at church for the youth group. May make cinnamon rolls too, maybe.

Timmy has a fever and is cold, laying on the couch,he just ate a boul of frozen blueberries. He feels OK though. Called Kenny at work to bring some more Sambucal. He's been taking a spoonfull every day. He slept on the bench at church Sunday night and got all sweaty then went outside. That was a no no.

Gotta get up an think about supper too. Talk to ya later. The blueberry coffee cake is not too shabby today, come have a cup of coffee with it and me, yes?

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Thanks Ruth

I should have known not to start looking through the clip art at midnight. It's 1;15 AM and I only saw a fraction of it , some beautiful pictures. I fell asleep twice and nearly wiped out the keyboard.

Made a blueberry sour cream coffee cake today. It never did get solid in the middle and didn't raise enough, heavy and wet in the midle, other than that it wasen't bad. The receipe said to put a pint of fresh or frozen berries on the top then bake. I did, but it didn't, bake, that is. It wasen't too bad, Kenny didn't like it though, guess I'll have to eat it, wouldn't want it to go to WAIST, mine, that is. Ended up making MONSTER COOKIES for mercy's care package. Didn't know if she'd like the fudge. Afterwards, I wish I'd have sent her some, she does love the trail bars. Timmy or Kenny don't like the fudge so guess I'm stuck with two batches of that too. Anybody want some? Come on over and get it. It's 1:30 now, I simply must get my beauty [ha] sleep

PS. Sharon, I'm on edge now, I didn't know Dear Ol Aunt Woosy had a sister, let alone by the name of Wiffy. I'm scared to go to my dark bedroom now. Before we get through, we'll discover she has a couple brothers named Wimpy, Wikky, Willy, Winny, Wippy, Witty and Wizzy. Wizzy,? that's witty, or is it Wimpy? I dunno, or don't care either, I just wanna go to beddy.ZZZZZZZZZZZ
