Workday, on Sunday? Who would have thought it.

A quick note at this wee hour of the morning. Talked to S. Belle tonight on the phone. We came up with this plan for Sunday. Try to be there around 10:oo, give or take as needed. If you have a paint scraper handy, bring it. If not, we'll find you one, same with a paint brush. Three work on the porch ceiling, three work upstairs to clear and straighten up room. If Mr. Ed comes, he can cut and mount newer boards on the walkway to the porch, Mr. T. included. Mr. K. L. will most likely be working the fields as already committed.
Mr. K. L. thinks we all should scrape paint all day, what we can, he'll take care of the incoming wires when he can, we scrape the rest all day. We have a paint sprayer that he can weild when the scraping is finished. We have a wire brush that goes on a drill, said that is the way to go.

I bring rolls and tea. We won't need desert 'cause we'd be too full to work. Pa can eat some of S. Elaine's microwave chocolate cake, wouldn't do to come without that, now would it? No it wouldn't. Short and sweet, good night.

Ps. If it rains, Mr. K. L. will be there to put up wallboard, we need help with the 12 ft. pieces to get up the stairs and onto the ceiling. Uggg. Wouldn't wish it on anyone but it's cotta be done.

Back to the Beahive

I'll be out of commission for a couple days again. Filling in for mom at the Queen Bea's. Maybe two days this time. Fixed Hubby a pot roast in the crock pot with tatters and carrots. Picked up a lb. of sliced ham at T-Mart because I know he'll be in the door, change into ol dirty work cloths and go plow till midnight if he doesn't get called back in to work. He just put in 40 hours straight with only one hour of sleep. That was between plowing and Verizon. He's finally in bed, hopefully he can sleep till 7:oo in the morning. I had to go with him over to English to the bulldozer tonight to keep him awake. He had to put oil in it, it all leaked out and was used a few hours building a road thinking it was just low. Not so, he found out tonight, it was gone, didn't know it had leaked that bad. Now he's troubled, wondering what damage was done, just when he was feeling good about all the work he had done on it. Guess time will tell, when he has the time to check it out.

I must needs to hurry here. It's 1:40 and I can't go back to bed in the morning, have to get some things together for lunch at Moms tomorrow, pack for Timmy and me to be gone a couple days, water plants shower and wash my hair and try to be at moms by 1:00 for lunch 'cause Ruth and Sarah Beth will be there hungry. Mom said she'd make tatter salad, I made fresh lemonade , deviled eggs, and am taking bar-b-que venison and a can of Bush's baked beans. Should be plenty to chow down on.

Sharon I would like your microwave chocolate cake recipe, please? GOOD NIGHT.

Home again

If anyone has a birthday today, this is for you. If not, that's ok too, I just liked the pretty bright colors.

It's almost 2:00 am and hubby is still out on the tractor, down in the river bottoms at Leavenworth, hope he's ok, I see he forgot his flashlight. He does have his company phone but I'd think he's way to low to get a signal, to far out in the boonies.

It was 8O degrees in the house earlier. I opened the sliding door and two windows and there's a wonderful breeze in Timmy's room and Hubby's but no screen on my window so it's too hot for me to sleep. Think I'll go down stairs to sleep but I can't lock the door till he gets home. Aha, he just drove down the hill, I hope it's him, someone is out there. He just walked in the door, said he was doing all right till he blew a hose so had to quit. He put in 7 1/2 hours after work tonight. Good thing tomorrow is Saturday but my guess is he'll get up early and go somewhere to get the hose fixed, put it back on and go to it again till it starts to rain or something else breaks.

The wind is kicking up and howling through the trees. I just heard a whip-poor-will, calling in the cool of the night, first I've heard this spring. Boy, I don't like the sound of that wind, whipping through those tall trees.

Went to the dentist today, a Endodonist, which means, 'Practice limited to Root Canals.' Ruth and Sarah Beth went along just in case I needed her. I was dreading the visit but the lady dentist was really good. It only took an hour and was a piece of cake, compared to what I thought it would be like. No problem at all. Had it done 15 hours ago and hasn't hurt yet. I highly recommend her and told her so. She was glad for the compliment.

It's nearly 2:30 now, Hubby got a glass of water and went down stairs to check the weather station, anxious to get that field finished tomorrow. They have 5ooo acres they're working, some will be 'notill', they were tilled last fall. I'm gonna shut down and crash, good nite.

I was but wanted to say I'm back home after 5 days and nights at Bea's Hive. We got along great, except when she put me in my place a few times for trying to get her to go to the bathroom or drink water or get up out of her chair for a few steps of exercise. Ruth kept Timmy and Hubby stayed busy so it all worked out fine.

O.K. I'm shutting down again before my head hits the desk. I'll go downstairs and see what Hubby's up to.

What a Glorious Day

Well folks, what do ya know? Rainin over your way? Tis here now but we had a lovely day. I raked leaves off the flower and Tim picked up sticks, under woefully dire protest. We worked till 4:30 when we had to come in and make supper. I had 2 old T-bone steaks in the freezer that I thawed all day. Cut off the fat and bone so they would fit in the fry pan. Tenderized them, floured and browned them just right. Added water and let them simmer about 45 minutes to perfection. The water simmered down to a fine flaverful gravy. Tim requested broccoli and cheese, had fresh frozen corn and leftover mashed tatters. Got up from the table and Hun and Son went out to finish raking leaves before the rain started. The thunder rolled, lightening flashed, wind roared and the trees swayed to and fro. The sky dropped it's bottom out, the hail hurled it self mercilessly to the ground with the vengeance of a pit bull and the race was on. Down, down, down it came, pelting everything within it's reach. Shortly it spent it's self out, whimpered like a whipped pup and settled down to a steady, cool wet, very wet spring rain.

Now I must get my weight up from this chair and get hamburger and onion cooked up just right for a lasagna for Hubby while I'm away. Made his tea and orange juice this am to last him. If it runs out, he knows how to make more. He's sacked out on the couch, must be nice. Gotta get started.

Story Time

This was me in 1903. I've changed a lot since then, for better or for worse. I've aged just a few years, hair's a little thinner, have to wear my necklines a bit higher now, skin is not as dewy as it was then, all in all, I don't look too bad for my age, do I? Oh well, life goes on, times they do change. I've lost the hat though, can't rightly recollect what ever became of it. I guess maybe it went out of style a few years ago. Oh yes, it's coming back to me now. Dear ol Aunt Woosey once ask to borrow it, I think it was about 1914, yes, my memory is clearing up, the fog is lifting. That's it! She had booked a sea voyage on that new unsinkable ship, the Titanic, I think was it's name. Oh She was a beauty. You can't imagine how big, grand, long and glorious that ship was to behold. The best of everything was on her, they spared nothing to make her the biggest and best ship at sea. The finest of china, silver, sparkling, glistening chandeliers, oh you name it and it was on that ship.

Well, Aunt Woosy always thought she was a 'cut above the rest' and had to have the best. She wouldn't rest until she had a passage booked on the 'Unsinkable.' Oh she shopped around and bought the finest and prettiest of the days fashions, saten slippers, kidskin high button shoes, purl buttons, no less, beautiful silk ballroom gowns and the cutest little white lacy parasol, to shade her from the sun while lounging on the first class deck. She even took her great, great grandmothers family heirloom, the biggest, bluest, sparkling diamond you've ever laid your eyes on. Oh it was a beautiful stone, set in the purest gold setting with a delicate, fine chain to grace her lilly white neckline. To complement the necklace, she needed a fine, fancy ruby red hat to complete the look of finery. Her waist was cinched up so tiny, wrapped in red velvet, layer upon layer, her most expensive gown, embroidered with silk and chenille. The very pretty sleeves were gathered round the armhole at the top, falling in a puff to the dainty wrists. The empire pattern lent it's self with grace to her tiny form, spangled with chiffon and piped silk. And the hat, oh that hat. It was extra ordinary, refined and cultured, the best millinery headwear, necessary for her well regulated wardrobe. It was of superb style, sterling guality and superior workmanship. It had a lovely spray of flowers, consisting of purple and white hydrangeas, arranged in garland fashion on the brim, with a many looped bow, the ends of which fell over the nap of her pale neck. Aaah, and it was mine. Most charming, with a sweeping ostrich plume, only meant to be worn upon ceremonious occaisions.....And she ask to barrow it , promised to return it, but alas, it went down with the ship and I never saw it again. So sad. End of story.

Ruth, maybe S. Beth could go over and stay with Mom during the day to be her arms and leggs, help her out. I am scheduled to go stay with Aunt 'Bea' Saturday night, 5:00 through Tuesday. I can take Son with me but hopefully Jenny maybe can keep him on Sunday or better yet, he'd love to go to church with S. Beth maybe a sleepover Sunday night. Just a thought. What do you say, let me know.

Gotta get to bed before my ship sinks, it's 2:30 and it sinks at 2:45. Yikes, gotta run.

Aaah, Sleep

This is the new me. Yah, Right, dream on kid. This is me in my secret life, how's that? Maybe in my dreams.

This is neither here nor there but can any of you read in your dreams? I can see the words on a printed page but it's like I'm looking through a fog and can never clearly make out a sentence to actually read it and make it make sence. Now did that make any sence? It seams like when I try to read something in my sleep, I tend to wake up or 'end of dream.'
Now Hubby's brother is a different story. Says during the day that he can study and study on a problem and not come up with the answer. He can go to sleep and figure it out perfectly and come up with the right answer. Says he can do math in his sleep, something he can't do when he's awake, and come up with the right answer every time. He can add columns of figures and get the total correct. By morning he has the situation, problem, concern, etc. All worked out. Wow. That must be nice. To top that off, he has a bad case of sleep aphnea [sp] and gets very little sleep at night. Hubby has the same sleep problem but can't work things out in his sleep. Now, for whatever that was worth, take it or leave it.

I shouldn't be sitting here yacking at 2:00 in the morning, my chair is feeling quite wobble, rocking and reeling somewhat.

Had a nice day at moms with family. Wonder how Mom is doing, sitting in the recliner trying to sleep, no doubt, hurting. She could hardly walk today, Ruth and I went to the shop and brought her back a pair of crutches. [Just fell asleep and nearly smacked the keyboard, need to tie myself in the chair I guess] Her knee was all swollen and very painful. We are hoping that it's only a temporary sprain or pulled muscle. She can't keep Bea in that condition.

I'm toast. I just remember that I walked away from Dads workshop this evening, left the light on and the door open. I intended to walk up to the house to get the wood bits then go right back and drill my holes with the drill press in the two pieces of wood. Got up to the house and Daddy wanted to eat so I fixed his supper, washed dished, straightened and picked things up and collected all my 'stuff' that needed to go back home. I know what it was now, why I forgot. Hubby called and needed a BIG wrench to use on the bulldozer so I lit out of there pretty fast. Went up and helped him till way after dark, holding the flashlight, weilding the prybar, fetching tools, getting greasy, cold and hungry. I was way ready to go home. We finally got the piece to come apart, washed with stinky hand soap, wiped on clean white paper hand towels and headed home around 10:00. It's good that Tim can entertain himself. I did hand him a Wally World sack and tell him to go pick up cans and bottles that were pitched out into the pasture.

Thank you S. Elaine for the delicious chocolate cake you sent back with S. Bell. That was sweet and thoughtful of you. Just wish you could have been there. Lucina made Jills chicken casserole and peachcobbler. I took ice tea, fresh lemonade, corn, good carrots that got all ate up, mashed tatters and deviled eggs. Mom fixed Dad up 4 plates to tide him over.[leftovers] S. Belle cleaned up the dishes and table while Lucena and I went to fetch crutches. Poor girl, she had the tummy tumbles and didn't feel up to par. That's tough when you take a precious day off and don't feel well. S. Beth had a piano lesson so they had to leave. Papa had two lawns to mow so he had to leave too. Mom, S. Belle and I sat out in the sunshine awhile with Moms leg propped up. I hope she's getting some blessed sleep. It's 2:45 now and I need some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's

PUT UP CURTAINS AT ONE SLIDING DOOR AND SET UP THE BIG DESK. Problem IS, IT'S TOO BIG AND TOO BUSY, DON'T GO THERE AT ALL. Oh DEAR, caps again, that's what I get for not looking at the screen. Too many tables in the room.

We were at church last night getting ready to leave when the lights went out, blacker than squid ink. Some one had a little flashlight in their purse so Pastor went out in the pouring rain and drove his car up to the glass doors so we could see. Timmy and I ran through the drops and wind for the car. GOT UP TO THE INTERSTATE AT CAREFREE AND TRAFFIC WAS STOPPED, [now how did that happen again?] I was just creeping along just before the bridge and barley noticed lines down across the road in the headlights. It was blowing so hard and raining I could hardly see anything. I just sat there a moment and a car went around me then stopped real quick right at the line. He got over to the side and went under so I did the same thing. Even the interstate 64 was shut down. Hadn't been long 'cause the firetruck and ambulance from Leavenworth were still on their way. Saw a semi going the wrong way on the on ramp trying to get out of the mess. Got home and Hubby was called in to work for the second time. He worked all night, got home at 4:30, crawled into bed and was called out again. Got back home at 7:30, showered, shaved had breakfast and was gone all day. He ate supper then sacked out on the couch down stairs till bedtime. He's not on call but the 'on call guy' needed help. It's hard on the health but good on the pocketbook.

I feel better, my bug was only a 24 hour thing too, PTL. It's 1:30 and I have lots to do tomorrow so I'm shutting down. Good Night. PS. 'R' did you find out about the drinking glass I told you about?

Fresh as Spring

This is my new look. It's April Fools day. Well, I wish it were my new look. I feel anything but my new look. This was my day to drag. Headache, sorethroat, fever and the mollygrubs. Mamma's don't get to crawl under the covers and rest either. Tim is better, his lasted 24 hours, PTL. Sarah Beth came over the other day to perk him up and Sarah Bell came today to perk me up. Just hope she don't get it. She did her laundry then we walked up to the neighbors shop and got a few old books, an old 1932 Tiddledy Winks game, Tim a toy and 2 cute little dolls, also a miniature tea cup and saucer for hanging on the Christmas tree. The good part was it was all half price.

Gotta step away for a few minutes, Son wants a sandwich. ----- He's happy now. I handed him the sandwich and he said, "Now that's what I was talking about." Hubby came looking in the cupboards. I ask what he wanted. Said he feels like he needs some chicken broth. Oh no, not him too. He found 2 cans and heated us both up one and it was good. It won't hold him down though. He and Brother spent the day working on the dozer. It's not 45 years old as I stated, it's a 1948 model, 58 years old. It's kinda worn. They threw a track today on the side of a hill when it hit a rock the wrong way, they spent 3 hours trying to get it back on but didn't succeed, tomorrows another day he said.

Sarah Belle didn't have time to post a note. She left here at 5:30 and still had to go see Dad, Ruth and Mom at work. I told her not to drive too fast but bet she did. It's a 30 minute drive from here to dads but she said it didn't take her that long. Must be kin to Mom, zooooooom.

Guess I'd best go see Hubby, he's downstairs on the couch.
